The really intriguing web of intrigue
The internet has changed our lives forever, and in so
many ways for the good. For the good of our knowledge, our heath, and - so
brilliantly – for keeping us
up to date with what's going on in the world just
about as it happens, and even with our own near-static Brexit affair.
Want to know about films, theatre, books, how to feed a
budgie, what to do if a chick falls out of its nest?
The answers are there, but a click away. It's for free. You'd
expect it to cost a fortune.
If you happen to be looking at your monthly charges from
Virgin or BT or TalkTalk, you might well be surprised to hear that the web is
for free. Absolutely gratis.
And yet its presence, invented by Robert Kahn and Vint
Cerf, is felt in almost every home in the world, yet it was only in 1991, that
Tim Berners-Lee developed the first web site info.cern.ch.
Need
to check the spelling of a word, ask Google, and learn much quicker than
reaching for a dictionary. Want advice on gardening, astronomy, psychology, the
price of coffee in Aldi or Lidl or Sainsbury's? Continues on the blogs for my
ocean-travel adventure book, Sailing to Purgatory, at SailingToPurgatory.com
