A perfect term for our times


 I've subscribed to A Word a Day almost since it began and enjoyed almost
every day its offering of mostly unusual words.
 I have to admit that I don't recall having cheered out loud - and felt cheered up - by any of the hundreds and hundreds of wise/clever and often witty words before.
Arnu Garg, the A Word A Day founder, explains (with a straight face) how this and other words are chosen. 'Random times call for random words. Once in a while, we just close our eyes and open the dictionary.

TRUMPED-UP

'Then we point a finger at the page.
'We did this five times and the word popped up.
'What are the odds?'
What were the odds indeed that the allegedly five times of pointing should produce this word of all words from the A Word A Day dictionary? Yes, that's the word - Trumped-up.
