How to be a #1 radio star overnight ... almost

Sick of radio stations that seem determined to question your intelligence and taste of their listeners? Tune into Radio 1 for perhaps as much as two minutes and you'll know exactly what I mean.
For me, the radio stations that might appeal are the serious jobs that offer music by gifted composers, not those churning out the sad sounds of people who have never studied music, and rather obviously so.

Yet be selective and choose the upmarket places and still suffer, too. Radio 3 often can’t decide whether to churn out jazz with its good taste. Jazz?
Yes, it amazes me too that stuff I used to play in a band heaven knows how long ago is often churned out by stations with classical formats.

Really junky ads

Go to near the end of the dial for a station that strangely mixes in commercials – often really junky ads seemingly aimed for the illiterate – Classic FM.
The short excerpts they draw from classical pieces are often really pleasing, even if tasting bites isn't much of a tester of taste.
Yet how very odd they add into the mix, for presumably at least relatively intelligent people, very strange deejay talk that often resembles spoilt brats attempting to charm dotty but wealthy aunts.
Fortunately, even these days we can play discs of our choice and never endure deejay-style banter.
However, a relatively new choice is out there for us, I discovered the other day. What about owning and running your own station? What a surprise for the neighbours.

You entertain the universe

You can call the station what you like, play the music you like, act the compere or stay silent while you entertain the universe, or perhaps more likely audiences of half a dozen, or so.
How much to have your own station? I looked through the internet radio site to find out, but the exact amount wasn't exactly crystal clear. However, it seems you could budget for a regular monthly charge of £18. Continues on the blogs for my ocean adventure book, Sailing to Purgatory, at SailingToPurgatory.com
